On the morning of September 27, 2020, the inauguration ceremony of the BFSU-SIO Competency Development Center, together with a high-level forum, was held in the multifunctional hall on the 9th floor of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP).
DetailOverview
The BFSU-SIO Competency Development Center was jointly established by BFSU and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP). The Center is dedicated to serving the strategy for cultivating professionals for international organizations. Integrating resources in teaching, research, and publishing, the Center aims to cultivate and deliver high-level, interdisciplinary and multilingual professionals for international organizations. These professionals are expected to possess a strong sense of commitment to China, a global perspective, a solid understanding of international rules, outstanding professional expertise, and strong intercultural communication skills. The Center also conducts interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral, and cross-institutional research and training related to international organization talent development.
Main Functions
Promoting a Socialized Training Mechanism for International Organization Talent
The Center actively serves national institutions and organizations by undertaking training programs for prospective professionals in international organizations and promoting the development of a socialized training mechanism. It organizes faculty members and students to visit and conduct training at international organizations, collaborates with international organizations in the professional development of faculty members, and jointly establishes internship and training bases. These initiatives provide students with greater opportunities to intern or serve as international volunteers in international organizations, enabling them to gain practical experience, broaden their global perspectives, and enhance their competencies for working in international organizations.
Publishing Teaching Materials and Developing Online and Offline Courses
In collaboration with overseas universities and international organizations, and drawing on the academic resources of Chinese universities and the digital platform of FLTRP, the Center develops a series of textbooks on international organization talent development. It also offers various online and offline courses related to international organizations to meet the needs of universities, institutions, and the broader public.
Organizing Competency Competitions and Academic Forums
In cooperation with human resources departments of international organizations, universities at home and abroad, and other social partners, the Center organizes competitions on international organization knowledge and competency development. These activities aim to increase public awareness and understanding of international organizations and encourage more people—especially young people—to pursue career opportunities in international organizations. The Center also hosts seminars, workshops, and lecture series on international organization talent development, both online and offline, with the goal of building an international high-level platform for academic exchange and discussion on international organization talent cultivation.
Building an Expert Think Tank and Conducting Research
Focusing on competency development for international organizations, the Center carries out research on international organization talent cultivation. With the support of the Center’s advisory board and expert teams, the Center collaborates with scholars and specialists from relevant fields both home and abroad to initiate a series of research projects. It also establishes a think tank dedicated to international organization talent studies and develops databases on international organization talent training and research, providing intellectual support for academic research, disciplinary development, and China’s engagement with international organizations.
